Two of the best football programs in the country are set to open the 2024 season. Clemson and Georgia were reportedly working on scheduling a game for as early as 2021.

Although the game won't come that early, the two teams will play. The Tigers and Bulldogs will open the 2024 season in a Chick-fil-A Kickoff game to be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

According to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, the game is scheduled for August 31, 2024.

Here's more from the report:

'We think it’s going to be a tremendous blockbuster game,' said Gary Stokan, president and CEO of Peach Bowl Inc., which operates the annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff.

Stokan said the contracts for the Georgia-Clemson matchup were signed Thursday afternoon. Both schools’ coaches and athletic directors 'thought it was very important to renew the rivalry,' he said.

The game is scheduled for Aug. 31, 2024, in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A formal announcement is expected later Friday.

Clemson and Georgia project to be top-five programs for a long time with Dabo Swinney and Kirby Smart at the helm. Both teams made the College Football Playoff last season and have dreams of doing so again this year.

Georgia has a giant edge in the all-time series. The Bulldogs are 42-18-4 against the Tigers.
