Incredibly, we're one month into the 2019 college football season. Both major polls have been updated ahead of Week 5.
The new Coaches Poll' was released Sunday afternoon and there were a lot of changes. Wake Forest and USC entered the rankings, while Wisconsin, Boise State and Cal made major leaps in the standings.
On the flip side, Michigan, Texas A&M, UCF and Utah fell several spots each due to losing. But all that movement aside, what we are focusing on here is which teams are slotted a little bit too high.
Here are the three “most overrated” teams in the updated Coaches Poll according to how we see it.
No. 11 Penn State
The Nittany Lions made this list last week, along with Florida and Michigan. Florida misses the cut this week after beating up on Tennessee, and Michigan misses it because they are no longer rated highly after losing to Wisconsin. As for Penn State, they stay on for the time being. Coming off a bye, we want to see how the Nittany Lions look in a sneaky tough Friday night game at Maryland. Right now, 11th feels a little too high, but an impressive performance against the Terps will likely get Penn State off this list next week.
No. 18 Virginia
Is Virginia the favorite in the Coastal? Yes. Are they the second-best team in the ACC? They seem like it. Should they be top 20? No, considering they had to struggle to beat Old Dominion at home and their other wins are against Pitt, William and Mary and Florida State. It feels like the Cavaliers would be properly slotted between 20-23 in the rankings. However, if they go in and beat Notre Dame on the road, we will be eating crow.
No. 22 Texas A&M
To be fair to the Aggies, their two losses are against Clemson and Auburn. However, the Tigers pretty much controlled the whole game in College Station last week, and A&M's two wins are against Texas State and Lamar. Sure, Texas A&M has two "good" losses. But their overall resume should leave them out of the top 25 right now.
Note, we listed the three teams in the order they were ranked in the poll, not necessarily by which we think is most overrated:
