Any time a player makes a verbal commitment to a school, there's always the possibility that they will change their mind. That's even the case when it comes to transfers.

Coastal Carolina defensive end Jeffrey Gunter visited Syracuse earlier this month. Gunter later committed to the Orange, and even signed a financial aid agreement, which binds the school to him but does not bind him to the program.

Now, Gunter has changed his mind. He won't be heading to Syracuse, and will instead continue his career at NC State.

Gunter announced his decision on Twitter this morning.

Last season, Gunter was a first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection as he compiled 49 tackles (14 for loss) and five sacks. He added five quarterback hurries and a forced fumble as well.

Gunter appeared in 24 games for the Chanticleers over the last two seasons, making 75 total tackles.

Due to NCAA rules, Gunter is expected to sit out the 2019 season and resume playing in 2020. He has three seasons to play two.

However, he could apply for a hardship waiver, that if approved, would allow him to compete immediately for the Wolfpack in 2019.
