Notre Dame is one win away from its second undefeated regular season under Brian Kelly. The Irish are poised to head to the College Football Playoff.
Kelly has been Notre Dame's most successful head coach since Lou Holtz, but could he look to leave South Bend soon? Colin Cowherd thinks its a possibility.
Today on The Herd, Cowherd played "Coaching Carousel" with a few big name college and pro head coaches. One of them is Kelly, who he says is drawing some interest from NFL franchises.
"I am told there are a couple of NFL teams that have been really impressed with Brian Kelly this year, that he is getting the most in 2018 out of Notre Dame football," Cowherd said.
Kelly has been linked to NFL rumors before, but nothing has ever come of them. Still, Cowherd said if Kelly can get the Fighting Irish to the playoff and is then approached with the "right opportunity" in the NFL, he could bolt.
"Frankly, I think it would be a great move by him," Cowherd added.
Kelly is in his ninth season in South Bend. He's taken Notre Dame to a bowl every year but one, and reached the BCS National Championship Game in 2012, even if the NCAA says it didn't happen.
Kelly and the Irish will look to finish off a 12-0 regular season against USC on Saturday.
