Alabama captured the national championship on Monday, but a different powerhouse program finishes with the most “land” claimed on Reddit’s college football imperialism map.

Basically, when a team defeats another team, it takes over its “land,” as defined by the area closest to each of the programs in the FBS ranks.

Alabama is well-represented, but as you can see, Ohio State actually comes out on top in terms of pure area, thanks to its dominance of almost the entire Northwest, Big Sky Country, and large swaths of the Northeast and Southeast.
Alabama finishes second in area and population, with 5-7 Pitt strangely finishing third, thanks to a late-season win over Miami. Sitting out bowl season allowed Pitt to skate through the final six weeks of shifting here.
In total, 15 programs finished with at least one county. For the full data set, head over to Reddit.
