College Football Player Dies After Having Tonsils Removed

We've got some terrible news to report out of Portland, Oregon this Monday afternoon. Portland State freshman linebacker AJ Schlatter, who walked onto the team before earning a scholarship this past year, died Sunday after complications following a tonsillectomy. Schlatter's father, James A. Schlatter, broke the news on Facebook.

Schlatter's post is heartbreaking. He says that he "failed" his son, adding that he believes a blood clot developed after the surgery. Both the police and the fire department in Canby, Oregon attempted to resuscitate Schlatter before he passed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to Schlatter's family and friends.
