ESPN’s Paul Finebaum has seen enough. He’s ready to declare this year’s top four teams in college football. Believe it or not, his picks won’t surprise you.
Finebaum is rolling with Alabama as his No. 1 team in college football right now. No surprise. The Crimson Tide looked like a championship team in a dominant 44-13 win over the Miami Hurricanes last Saturday. Quarterback Bryce Young looks like Alabama’s next superstar quarterback.
Next on Finebaum’s list is none other than the Georgia Bulldogs. Kirby Smart’s team fought Clemson in a defensive slug-fest Saturday night and came out on top in a 10-3 victory. It was an impressive, statement victory from the Bulldogs who look like they’re capable of competing for a national championship.
At No. 3 and 4, respectively, lands Ohio State and Oklahoma, per Finebaum. Neither looked overly impressive in their season-opening wins over Minnesota and Tulane. But the expectation is that both the Buckeyes and Sooners will get better and better as the season rolls along.
“I think the first two are Alabama and Georgia,” Finebaum said during ESPN’s Get Up on Monday. “And you can quibble about Georgia but I think they separated themselves. After that, forgetting a bad performance, I still like Ohio State and Heather, I’m going with Oklahoma. They struggled. They always struggle in early games but I think they’re one of the four best teams in the country.”

It’s tough to imagine any team beating Alabama or Georgia this season. The Crimson Tide have an elite offense. The Bulldogs are unstoppable on the defensive side of the ball. But it’s way to early to declare either the champion just yet.
Both Ohio State and Oklahoma displayed a few eye-opening flaws during college football’s opening weekend.
It’s shaping up to be a wild season in the college football world. Who are your top four teams at this point in the season?
