Nothing sparks pettiness quite like a college football rivalry.

On Saturday, Virginia Tech cruised to a 55-17 victory over Virginia. After the game, the Hokies reconvened on the Scott Stadium field to take a group photo.

The sprinklers then went off on Virginia Tech. Bill Roth captured the moment.

Of course, there's no way of knowing Virginia's stadium crew intentionally turned on the sprinklers as an act of revenge. They could have been set to go off automatically at a set time after Saturday's matchup.

Either way, getting wet didn't dampen Virginia Tech's celebration.

The sprinklers didn't deter the Hokies from taking their photo. Players seemed to enjoy the disturbance, which helped create an iconic picture.

The Hokies attained 500 total yards and outgained their opponent by 205 rushing yards in a road blowout. Bhayshul Tuten led the way with 117 rushing yards and a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Despite committing 10 penalties, Virginia Tech thoroughly controlled the rivalry contest with six sacks. The Hokies, who unlocked bowl-game eligibility with their sixth victory of the season, have won 18 of their last 19 meetings over the Cavaliers.

Stephen Gosnel started the onslaught by scoring a 44-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Via Andy Bitter, the Virginia Tech wide receiver wasn't bothered by the sprinkler interference.

"They can do that," Gosnell said. "We’ll take the Dub and they can take the L."
