College Football WR Dies From Injuries Sustained In Car Accident

A college football player passed away earlier this week from injuries he sustained in a car crash in late August. Jake Simmons, a freshman at a Division II program in Oklahoma, passed away from previous injuries.

According to a report from Oklahoma's News 4, officials at Southwestern Oklahoma State University say Simmons died from injuries he sustained in an August 26th car accident.

School president Randy Beutler released a statement following Simmons' passing.

"On behalf of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, I express our deepest condolences to the family of Jake Simmons as we all mourn his loss. We ask that the entire Bulldog Family continue to lift up his family and friends in this difficult time."

The school posted a memorial for Simmons on Facebook.

Head football coach Chet Pobolish also commented on Simmons' death, adding that he "was a great young man who we were excited to have join our program. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with Jake’s family and friends at this time."
