A college football running back has tragically passed away after being shot early on Saturday.

Colorado Mesa announced that Brett Ojiyi, a four-year running back for the school's football team, died after being shot.

The Denver Post has the awful details:

In an e-mail to students, Mesa president Tim Foster said the loss of Brett Ojiyi was “from a tragic accident,” according to a Grand Junction television station.

Just after midnight Saturday, Grand Junction police said they were called to a home in the 100 block of Main Street for a report of a shooting. Officers said they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He died at the scene.

Ojiyi was a four-year member of Mesa’s football team and was a current student at the school.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends and teammates.

May he rest in peace.
