College football analyst Danny Kanell updates his top 8 on a weekly basis, and his rankings always stir up controversy, most likely by design.
Kanell has been consistent in keeping Clemson at No. 1, even though the Tigers have been less than impressive this season despite being undefeated. In fact, he and FS1’s Joel Klatt got into a minor back-and-forth on Twitter last week with Clemson’s deserved ranking at the heart of the matter.
Dabo Swinney’s team is in the top spot on Kanell’s list once again. Ohio State, Oklahoma and Alabama round out his top four.
Kanell’s next four teams are LSU, Penn State, Oregon and Notre Dame.
2. Ohio State
6. Penn St
8. Notre Dame

Overall, we don’t have much of an issue with the eight teams Kanell cited, though he is probably a little too high on Oregon. Swap Florida for the Ducks and the top eight looks a little better.
Clemson has not been the best team in America this season by performance alone. In fact, you could argue they aren’t even a top five team right now based on the “eye test.”
However, it looks like Kanell will keep them there until they lose a game, which might not be for a while.
