ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard thinks Brian Kelly will remain Notre Dame’s head coach after this year.
Notre Dame entered this year as the No. 10 team in the nation in the preseason AP Poll, No. 9 in the Coaches’ Poll. Just six games later, many are calling for the firing of head coach Brian Kelly.
The Fighting Irish sit at 2-4 on the season, and are in danger of not making a bowl game for the first time since 2009, when they finished the season with a 6-6 record, but decided not to play in one.
Former Michigan star Desmond Howard doesn’t care what the critics say, he thinks Kelly will be back at Notre Dame next season. Even if the Fighting Irish lose the rest of their games this season.
I don't care what happens the rest of the way for ND, Brian Kelly will be their head coach next season.

It’s a bold statement for a team that entered the season with such high expectations. But perhaps we just need to look at Kelly’s record of success, to understand where Desmond Howard is coming from. There’s also his contract situation, which doesn’t really allow for an easy (or cheap) firing.
Just last season, Kelly led Notre Dame to a 10-3 record, with a tough loss to Ohio State in the 2016 BattleFrog Fiesta Bowl.
Notre Dame faces Stanford this week in a matchup of underperforming programs.
