ESPN's College GameDay is recorded live, and every once in a while, one of the on-air talents drops a line that goes viral - for good or bad reasons. Desmond Howard had the first awkward moment of the 2019 season.

Howard, after being asked by host Rece Davis whether Michigan will make a "big enough splash" to beat Ohio State this year, gave an interesting response.

"Is Desmond Howard going to have to choke a bitch?"

Davis played it off, but the internet did not. Howard's response quickly spread on Twitter. Eventually he apologized for it.

He also explained where it came from. For those unaware, he was referencing a sketch from Dave Chappelle's show back in 2004. It featured comedian Wayne Brady.

Howard responded to Deadspin's tweet, suggesting he thought it was a more well-known joke:

It's unclear whether ESPN will take any kind of action against Howard. While it wasn't his finest moment, it also wouldn't be the first time a GameDay star dropped a swear word on television. Lee Corso has done it a few times.

Regardless, college football season is here. We get Miami vs. Florida at 7:00 PM ET.
