The college football season kicks off today with four contests between lower-tier competition. Although no Power 5 programs take the field today, it's still a pretty momentous occasion.
There will be college football on every Saturday until 2019. That's right, every weekend for the rest of the year will feature college football.
The College GameDay crew welcomed the season Saturday morning by announcing their picks for every conference champion and College Football Playoff foursome. Desmond Howard's picks were surprising.
Howard likes his alma mater to win the Big Ten - Michigan. He also likes West Virginia to win the Big 12 and make the playoff.
He went conventional with the other two playoff picks, however, when he selected Alabama and Clemson.
His eventual champ? You guessed it, Michigan.
Now, before you attack Howard for being a "homer," Michigan has something it hasn't had since Jim Harbaugh arrived at the school - a legitimate quarterback. Will Shea Patterson be enough to lead the Wolverines to a title?
It won't be easy. The Big Ten features four teams in the top 11 of the AP Poll, and Michigan plays all of them.
