Last week, one of the nation’s best quarterbacks made headlines after he announced his intentions to skip his team’s bowl game in order to get ready for the NFL draft. West Virginia star Will Grier won’t play against Syracuse later this month in order to stay healthy for the NFL.
It’s a move we’ve seen become the norm since Christian McCaffrey and Leonard Fournette skipped their bowls. However, this is the first time a top quarterback decided to skip his team’s bowl game with the intentions of staying healthy for the NFL draft.
On Wednesday, college basketball analyst Doug Gottlieb revealed his controversial take on the matter. He’s not happy with the move from Grier.
“Will Grier sitting out a Bowl Game is comical. Guy can really play, but has there ever even been a QB injured in a bowl game? Stop it already,” Gottlieb tweeted.

Grier is a projected top pick in the upcoming NFL draft. His name will likely be one of the first off the board – among quarterbacks.
The Mountaineers’ star has the right to secure his future financially by skipping a (relatively) meaningless bowl game.
