Here are some early predictions for college football’s biggest rivalry games in 2018.
Be honest: you’ve already thought about how your team is going to fare in its big rivalry game during the 2018 college football season. That’s OK, we have, too.
Despite being 10-11 or so months away from most of these big college football rivalry games, it’s time to take an initial look at them. Who’s going to win the sport’s biggest rivalry games in 2018?
- Ohio State or Michigan?
- Florida or FSU?
- Alabama or Auburn?
- Oklahoma or Texas?
- Nebraska or Iowa?
- Clemson or South Carolina?
- Michigan State or Michigan?
- Georgia or Georgia Tech?
- Notre Dame or Stanford?
- Ohio State or Penn State?
We’ve made some early predictions for these contests. You can view them below.
1. Ohio State vs. Michigan
Winner: Ohio State
Jim Harbaugh has yet to beat the Buckeyes as Michigan’s head coach. He’s not going to get it done in 2018, either.
2. Florida State vs. Florida
Winner: Florida State
The Seminoles were a major disappointment in 2017, but they should be a lot healthier and they’ll get it done against Dan Mullen.
3. Alabama vs. Auburn
The Crimson Tide lost to the Tigers in 2017, but that didn’t stop Nick Saban’s team from winning the national title. They’ll get revenge in 2018.
4. Oklahoma vs. Texas
The loss of Baker Mayfield will mark a new chapter in the OU-Texas rivalry. We like Kyler Murray to continue the trend of winning this big game.
5. Iowa vs. Nebraska
Scott Frost has a history of winning some pretty huge games as a head coach. Nebraska’s schedule is tough in 2018, so the game against the Hawkeyes might be the best opportunity for a huge win. He’ll get it done.
6. Clemson vs. South Carolina
Sorry, Gamecocks, but the Tigers are once again going to have simply too much to handle.
7. Michigan State vs. Michigan
Jim Harbaugh has struggled in his rivalry games so far as the Wolverines’ head coach. He’ll get a big win against the Spartans this year.
8. Georgia vs. Georgia Tech
The Bulldogs should once again be a College Football Playoff contender in 2018. The Yellow Jackets won’t have close to enough to get a W in this one.
9. Notre Dame vs. Stanford
Winner: Notre Dame
This’ll be a big year for Brian Kelly in South Bend, Ind. The Fighting Irish could be 4-0 heading into this one against the Cardinal. If they can stop Bryce Love from going completely off, they can get a win at home.
10. Penn State vs. Ohio State
Winner: Penn State
I like Ohio State to go 12-1 with a College Football Playoff appearance in 2018. The one loss will come at Penn State, a place that seems to consistently give elite Buckeye teams trouble.
