The coroner says 19-year-old Joseph Kraemer from Ohio was killed when he crashed on Tates Creek Road near Shallow Ford Road. Investigators say Kraemer hit a tree and then went over an embankment. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kraemer, who transferred to the team from UTEP, was a redshirt freshman for the Colonials. Head coach Dean Hood released a statement to the media about the tragic event.

"“The news that we lost one of our own is devastating to me, our team and our coaches. We pray that God will give strength to Joey’s family during their time of mourning. Joey will truly be missed by all of us he touched, not only because of what he accomplished on the football field, but because of who he was as a person and the impact he made on our lives," Coach Dean Hood told the media.

Our thoughts go out to the Kraemer family, the EKU community, and everyone else impacted by this loss.
