ESPN's FPI is very high on some of the college football elites this year. It's less high on others.

Taking a look at the projections, we've concluded that eight potential contenders have really no shot at making it. You can view those teams below.

ESPN: 8 teams with 'no shot' at making the College Football Playoff

1. Oregon

The Ducks are considered by some to be a breakout team. However, ESPN's FPI seems them going 8.3-3.8 in 2018.

2. LSU

The Tigers will be getting some preseason love. ESPN's FPI isn't high on Ed Orgeron's team at all, though. It has them going 6-6.

3. Texas A&M

How will the Aggies do in Year 1 of the Jimbo Fisher era? Good, but not great. ESPN's FPI has them going 7.4-4.7.

4. USC

The Trojans have been a popular preseason College Football Playoff pick for a couple of years in a row. ESPN's FPI sees USC finishing 8.7-4, though.

5. Michigan

The 2018 season is a huge one for the Wolverines. ESPN's FPI sees it ending in disappointment. The FPI has Michigan going 8.6-3.5.

6. Auburn

The Tigers probably have better than "no shot," even according to ESPN's FPI, but it's still not really high on them. It has Auburn losing three games.

7. Oklahoma State

The Cowboys will go 8-4 in 2018, according to ESPN's Football Power Index. Some think OSU could contend atop the Big 12. The ESPN FPI is not in that group.

8. Florida

The Gators are considered a "dark horse" SEC contender according to some analysts. ESPN's FPI sees four losses coming for Dan Mullen and Co.
