Michigan is 5-2 on the season after Saturday's loss to Penn State. Things aren't going to get any easier for the Wolverines over the final few weeks of the season.
Each week, ESPN updates its FPI rankings. One of the metrics the formula measures is remaining strength of schedule. Basically, it calculates who has the toughest road ahead of them.
Right now, the FPI is saying Michigan's final five games--vs. Notre Dame, at Maryland, vs. Michigan State, at Indiana and vs. Ohio State--are harder than any other team's last five contests. The Wolverines are favored in three of those games, according to the FPI, and are underdogs against the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish.
ESPN's top 10 toughest remaining schedules list is as follows:
- Oregon State
- Boston College
You can see the Big Ten and Pac-12 both well-represented with three teams. The SEC has a pair of teams, while the ACC and Big 12 have one each.
