Due to the abundance of talent in each of the ‘Power Five’ conferences, there are always a few programs struggling to get through their tough schedule. This upcoming season shouldn’t be any different, and ESPN’s Football Power Index already has predictions for which teams will struggle in 2019.
As a reminder, the FPI is meant to be a predictor to measure each team in the country heading into the season.
In terms of strength, Clemson and Alabama rank as the two best teams in college football. On the flip side, the FPI has Rice and UTEP as the two weakest when it comes to projected records.
While every team that is considered a ‘Power Five’ program doesn’t have to worry about being at the bottom of the FPI rankings, there are five teams that might have to settle for last in their conference.
Here are the worst teams for each major conference, via ESPN’s FPI:
ACC: Georgia Tech
Big Ten: Rutgers
Big 12: Kansas
Pac-12: Oregon State
Kansas has the lowest ranking from the group, meanwhile Arkansas has the best grade. Nonetheless, the FPI has both programs toward the bottom of their respective conference.
It’s not unfamiliar territory for Arkansas, Kansas, Oregon State and Rutgers since they all finished last in their conference last season. As for Georgia Tech, it’d be quite the fall from its 7-6 record last season.
