LSU quarterback Joe Burrow has officially arrived onto the 2019 Heisman Trophy scene following his dominant performance at Texas.
Burrow, the transfer from Ohio State, looked pretty good in his first season with the Tigers in 2018. He’s looked incredible in his second year.
The former Ohio State four-star recruit threw for 471 yards and four touchdowns against the Longhorns on Saturday night. He has 749 passing yards, nine touchdowns and one interception on the season.
ESPN has placed Burrow into the top three of its Heisman Trophy poll following Week 2.
“Burrow and the Tigers have been preaching their new, wide-open offense all season long, and they continued to back up that talk behind Burrow and his 471(!) passing yards,” ESPN writes.
Here’s ESPN’s latest Heisman Trophy top five:
- Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts
- Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa
- LSU QB Joe Burrow
- Wisconsin RB Jonathan Taylor
- Ohio State QB Justin Fields
Week 3 doesn’t feature any notable Heisman Trophy race games, though Week 4 should be a big weekend.
Taylor and the Badgers are set to host Michigan at Camp Randall Stadium. Georgia and Notre Dame also play that Saturday night.
