ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit Reveals His "Surprise" Team For 2018

The college football season begins this weekend. Now is the time to get your last-minute predictions in.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit made some of his own in an interview with USA Today. Herbie offered up his playoff picks, Heisman Trophy winner and surprise team, among other things.

He took some creative liberty with his surprise team choice(s). Herbstreit didn't pick one squad in particular; rather, he named three.

His surprise teams are Texas, Mississippi State and Florida.

I think Texas is going to be much improved. Now that (second-year coach Tom Herman) has been there a little bit longer, I think the culture will allow them to be better. I think Florida with Dan Mullen has a chance to be pretty good. And I think Mississippi State has a chance. They’ve got guys that fit (new coach Joe Moorhead’s) system.

Mississippi State is 18th in the initial AP Top 25, while Texas is 23rd. You can view the full rankings here.

As for Herbstreit, you can catch him on College GameDay and as a color analyst on games all season long. He is calling three big games in Week 1 over Labor Day Weekend.

Herbstreit will call Northwestern-Purdue, Louisville-Alabama and Virginia Tech-Florida State.
