With the college football season officially 100 days away from beginning, ESPN has released a series of predictions and previews. This even includes the favorites to win the Heisman Trophy in 2019.
Last season, Kyler Murray won the most prestigious award in college football. He finished with 4,361 passing yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
One of the finalists for the Heisman Trophy last year was Tua Tagovailoa. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that he is among the favorites to win it this year.
Tagovailoa will earn a bunch of praise leading up to the season, but the leading candidate to become the next Heisman winner is Trevor Lawrence. All it took was one season in college football for the star gunslinger to validate his status as an elite prospect.
As for the entire field of potential favorites, it’s clear that ESPN believes another quarterback will win the Heisman Trophy.
- Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
- Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
- Jalen Hurts, QB, Oklahoma
- Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Alabama
- Sam Ehlinger, QB, Texas
- Jake Fromm, QB, Georgia
- Jerry Jeudy, WR, Alabama
- Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
- Jonathan Taylor, RB, Wisconsin
- D’Andre Swift, RB, Georgia
It’d be incredible to see Jalen Hurts take home the honor for two reasons. He’d make it three-straight winners from the University of Oklahoma, plus it would make for the perfect redemption story.
Regardless of who hoists the trophy in December, it’s safe to say we’re in store for another exciting season of college football.
