ESPN Names The Best Quarterbacks In The Big Ten

These are the best quarterbacks in the Big Ten.

Heading into the 2017 college football season, the Big Ten is set to return several starting quarterbacks from last season. Ohio State returns J.T. Barrett, meanwhile Penn State and Michigan return prominent starters Trace McSorley and Wilton Speight.

Those are just some of the starters returning from last season. But who is the best? And who has the best back-ups?

ESPN took a look at the Big Ten's best quarterback situations.

1. Ohio State

[J.T.] Barrett is a candidate to be the conference’s top player next season, but it’s Ohio State’s depth at quarterback that nudges them ahead of others to the top of this list.

2. Penn State

Trace McSorley finished out his first year as a full-time starter with 12 touchdown passes in three games, including a conference title win and a trip to the Rose Bowl.

3. Michigan

Wilton Speight remains the starter after helping lead Michigan and its offense to another 10-win season in 2016.

4. Northwestern

Northwestern’s Clayton Thorson. The third-year starter made a significant jump forward between his first and second seasons leading the offense.

The Big Ten has plenty of firepower heading into the 2017 season, so we should see the emergence of potent offenses rather than the staunch defensive efforts the Big Ten is known for.
