Oklahoma’s football program is one of the most storied in college football, and as such, the Sooners have a number of longstanding traditions. Last week, ESPN took a shot at naming which one is the “best” of the bunch.
ESPN’s article showcased the best tradition for each Top 25 college football program. Oklahoma checks in at No. 4 on their preseason rankings.
Oklahoma’s best tradition, it won’t shock you to hear, is the Sooner Schooner. Jake Trotter explained:
The Sooner Schooner has become synonymous with college football pageantry, racing onto the field after every Oklahoma score. It has been involved in some mishaps over the years, but the Sooner Schooner has gleefully been in overdrive mode lately trying to keep up with Lincoln Riley’s scoring machine.
Boomer Sooner is another tradition that most of the country knows. There’s also the slapping of the “Play Like A Champion” sign before games.
Oklahoma, which will presumably be led by Jalen Hurts this season, opens its 2019 campaign against Houston on September 1.
Sooners fans – did ESPN get it right with its pick?
