ESPN: The 4 Teams That Can Win The National Title Next Season

Here are the four teams that can win the national title next season, according to the recruiting statistics.

The 2018 college football season is about 7 months away. We already have a good idea of who can win the national title, though.

This is because of recruiting. The recruiting statistics show that only a couple of teams are likely capable of winning it all.

ESPN's Tom VanHaaren points this out. From ESPN.com:

"Each of the past seven national champions have averaged a top-10 recruiting class the four years prior to winning the national championship, and all seven have landed at least one recruiting class ranked in the top four in the two years prior to their title win," he writes.

So, based on that, there are four teams lined up to win it all in 2018. Those four teams:

  1. Alabama
  2. Ohio State
  3. Georgia
  4. Florida State

This isn't that big of a surprise. Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia are the top three teams in a lot of the preseason top 25s.

Florida State returns a ton of talent, too. The Seminoles are likely to start the season ranked pretty highly as well.

ESPN has also listed eight other teams with decent chances to make the College Football Playoff. This is also based on recruiting rankings:

  1. USC
  2. Clemson
  3. Auburn
  4. Texas
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Penn State
  7. Tennessee
  8. LSU
