They could win it all.

We're still more than half the year away from the 2018 college football season. It's the dark period of college football, with the 2018 recruiting classes almost complete, and coaching changes set.

Although we're still a few months away from the season, we're already getting a clear picture of who can compete for a title. With the 2018 recruiting class nearly set, favorites have emerged.

ESPN's Tom VanHaaren predicted the four teams that can compete for a title. Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, and Florida State all made the list.

He also added eight teams that have the chance to make the playoff. From ESPN.com:

"Since the playoff's inception, almost every team that has played in a CFP semifinal has averaged a recruiting class ranking of 15 or better for the four years prior to their playoff berth. The only exceptions to that rule have been Michigan State, Washington and Oregon," he writes.

  1. Auburn
  2. Clemson
  3. LSU
  4. Oklahoma
  5. Penn State
  6. Tennessee
  7. Texas
  8. USC

Florida State and Tennessee struggled during the 2017 season. However, both return a solid starting core, while employing new head coaches.
