A former 4-star linebacker announced his plans to leave the University of Tennessee as a graduate transfer. Darrin Kirkland took to Twitter on Thursday afternoon to announce his plans to leave the Volunteers.

Tennessee fired former head coach Butch Jones during the 2017 season.

The team introduced former Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt as the team's new head coach after a lengthy, and controversial, search.

Here's what Kirkland had to say.

Kirkland is a former 4-star recruit from the 2015 class. He was the No. 5 inside linebacker recruit in the country, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings and was the No. 2 player from the state of Indiana. It's too early to say where he'll go next, but one Tennessee inside thinks he'll join the Tar Heels.

We'll keep you updated on Kirkland's decision process.
