Jalen Hurts upset some Texas fans with his comments about the Red River Showdown prior to today’s rivalry game.
The former Alabama quarterback, who transferred to Oklahoma for his final college football season, said the following when asked about his first (and only) showdown against the Longhorns:
“I played in the Iron Bowl. I’ve played in big games. Think I’ll be alright,” Hurts said.
Hurts was just saying that he’s played in big rivalry games before, so he’ll know how to handle Oklahoma-Texas.
Some Longhorns fans took it poorly, though:
“Jalen Hurts is a smug, arrogant clown. When asked about Texas-OU, he said ‘I played in the Iron Bowl, I think I’ll be just fine.’ What a joke. TX-OU and Mich-OSU have the most ranked vs ranked matchups in CFB history. Iron Bowl doesn’t come close. Jalen in for a rude awakening!” one Texas fan tweeted.
Hurts went on to beat Texas today, leading the Sooners to a 34-27 win. He didn’t have his best game, but he still scored four touchdowns with 350-plus yards of offense.
Former Alabama running back Damien Harris had a message for that Texas fan after the win:
You were saying…? Lol https://t.co/sRhZrcsJLL

Well played, Damien.
While Hurts is no longer a part of the Alabama football program, he still has great relationships with his former teammates and coaches. And they’ll certainly be rooting for him (until a potential College Football Playoff matchup, of course).
Oklahoma improved to 6-0, 3-0 in the Big 12 with today’s win.
