Former Auburn Coach Bryan Harsin Reportedly Emerging For New Job
Bryan Harsin's name is reappearing on the college football hot stove this winter.
Harsin has spent the last two seasons away from coaching after getting fired at Auburn. He went 9-12 as head coach at the SEC program following seven more successful seasons at Boise State.
A comeback could be in the cards. According to Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, Cal is reportedly eyeing Harsin as an offensive coordinator candidate.
For the second straight year, the Golden Bears went 6-6 in the regular season. They made their ACC debut with a 2-6 conference record, ending the schedule with a 38-6 loss at SMU,
Despite nearly upsetting Miami in a 39-38 shootout loss, Cal averaged a modest 26.3 points per game after registering 30.2 points per game in 2023. They ranked ninth out of 17 ACC teams with 382.8 yards per game.
Cal dropped a 14-9 loss to a Florida State squad with no other ACC wins this year. The Golden Bears ended the regular season with 254 yards against the Mustangs.
Earlier this week, head coach Justin Wilcox announced that the program will search for a new offensive coordinator. Mike Bloesch, who joined the school last year as an offensive line coach/run game coordinator, held the job in 2024.
Auburn's offense didn't fare too well under Harsin. After Bo Nix transferred, Tigers quarterbacks combined to complete just 51.8 percent of their passes for 2,072 yards, nine touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 2022.
However, Boise State scored at least 32.5 points per game throughout Harsin's tenure. The Broncos went 69-19 with three Mountain West titles from 2014 to 2020 before he accepted Auburn's job.
Harsin may have already missed out on another opportunity. The Athletic's Bruce Feldman reported earlier this week that he was "in the mix" for Utah State's head coaching position before the Aggies hired Bronco Mendenhall on Friday.
