A former Big Ten athlete has been arrested for kicking birds in the head. Yes, that is a real sentence.

A former Indiana University wrestler has reportedly been arrested for practicing karate by kicking swans in the head. This reportedly occurred in Florida.

The wrestler, Rocco Joseph Mantella, is now 34. He wrestled for Indiana in the early 2000s and has done some MMA.

USA TODAY has details on the arrest and what happened:

As first reported by the Orlando Sentinel, police were called to Lake Eola Park in Orlando around 9:30 a.m. on April 26 after 34-year-old Rocco Joseph Mantella was “kicking animals throughout the park," according to the arrest affidavit.

One witness told police that Mantella appeared to be practicing karate by kicking two swans in the head and then another in the backside. The same witness said the kicks were “as hard as possible," and that one swan collapsed. The witness said Mantella also kicked a small duck that appeared to be sleeping.

He was reportedly charged with one count of cruelty to animals. You can view the full report here.
