Former Michigan Star Jake Long Is Retiring From The NFL

The former Wolverines' standout is hanging up his cleats.

Jake Long, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, has decided to retire from football.

The former Michigan Wolverines' standout announced on Twitter this afternoon that he still loves the game, but his body is forcing him to hang it up.

The 31-year-old has dealt with various injuries in recent years. He suffered a torn Achilles last November.

Long, the top overall pick by the Miami Dolphins in the 2008 NFL Draft, was a two-time consensus All-American with the Wolverines.

He played for Miami from 2008-12 and was a four-time Pro Bowler. Long then went on to play for the St. Louis Rams, Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings.

Long played in 104 NFL games.
