Tyvis Powell has been released.
Bad news for one former Ohio State star. The Cleveland Browns announced Friday afternoon that Tyvis Powell has been released. The Browns released the following statement about Powell's release:
The Cleveland Browns have waived DB Tyvis Powell.
Powell joined the team this year via waivers on Feb 6. He appeared in eight games as rookie with Seattle last season.
You might expect to see a little more effort by the Browns PR department, but this is all Powell received from his time with the team. Powell was claimed by the Browns after he cleared waivers in February.
Powell appeared in all 14 games, starting five, during his redshirt freshman season where he racked up 48 tackles and one interception. As a sophomore he recorded 76 tackles and four interceptions. His career highlight came when he was named the Defensive MVP of the 2015 College Football Playoff National Championship victory over Oregon Ducks.
As a junior in 2015, Powell racked up 71 tackles and three interceptions. He went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft before signing with the Seattle Seahawks.
