Former Texas Quarterback David Ash Writes Heartfelt Letter To Longhorn Fans

The retirement of Texas quarterback David Ash is one of the biggest stories of this young college football season. While Texas fans have to disappointed that they can't watch him play anymore, the fanbase and others in the program have rallied around Ash. The now-former Texas quarterback has issued a letter to those fans who have made his Texas experience special through Texas Athletics' website:

Dear Longhorn Nation,

Being the quarterback at The University of Texas has been a huge blessing and one of the biggest reasons is our fans. Throughout my career, you have been awesome in the good times and the tough times. I've recently fallen on some harder times and am just so grateful that you have continued to support me. I can't thank you enough. The words of encouragement in tweets and messages, and the prayers - just know that they really matter. I am really appreciative of how y'all have treated me, as well as the opportunity to be a part of this great football program.

Ash adds a piece about his background, and that while he did not grow up as a Longhorn fan, it is now a lasting part of him.

Growing up, I wasn't necessarily a Longhorn. My parents didn't go to school here so we didn't have any connection to The University of Texas. Now that I have been welcomed into the family, it's a part of who I am, a part of my identity. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's a huge blessing to be a part of the Longhorn family.

While it is incredibly unfortunate that he will not be able to play going further, it is very brave of Ash to move forward with his long term health in focus.
