FOX Sports' Tim Brando Thinks Conference Realignment Could Be On The Horizon, Notre Dame A Key Piece

It has been a few years since any major conference team jumped football leagues, but according to FOX Sports' Tim Brando, we could have more realignment coming soon. That should come as no surprise, but the team he believes may be a lynchpin is: Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish have held on to their Independent status thus far, moving their other sports to the ACC after the Big East split. However, as the ACC pushes for its own network with ESPN, a la the SEC Network, Brando thinks the Big Ten's money might draw Notre Dame's eye.

Brando is obviously tapped in, but the Notre Dame portion of this does seem like total speculation. He and WRAL Sports' Joe Ovies got into an interesting debate over the legitimacy of this option for the Irish.

Sources tell me the ACC Network (long anticipated)may happen sooner than some expect. Keeping an eye on Notre Dame. BIG10 remains an option

If money was truly the primary focus for Notre Dame, the Irish could've jumped to the Big Ten years ago. That being said, ESPN would definitely prefer an ACC with Notre Dame as a full football member if it is going to invest in an ACC Network.

Again, until something solid comes out, treat this all as speculation. If Brando is right about one thing, it is that realignment is definitely not over.
