Australian professional golfer Steve Elkington may not want to check his Twitter mentions today - not after what he himself has tweeted Tuesday morning. Elkington, who is no stranger to controversy on the social media medium, went after both ESPN and Michael Sam. Sam, of course, is attempting to become the first openly gay player to play in the NFL this upcoming season. He's been going through the drills at the combine this week, trying to impress league scouts.
His joke about the "handbag throw" is particularly offensive.
I'll stop short of going all holier-than-thou here, but it's obvious that Elkington is a bit out of line here. He'd probably have been better off keeping these thoughts to himself.
