Graham Mertz, a four-star quarterback in the 2019 class, has been committed to Wisconsin for a while. However, the QB's commitment has been questioned lately, with several other major programs attempting to woo him away from Madison, Wisconsin.
Ohio State and Notre Dame, for example, had made the quarterback recruit a major priority. The 2019 recruiting class doesn't have a ton of elite talent - according to the experts, anyway - and Mertz is believed to be one of the ones that does.
Wisconsin doesn't have anything to worry about moving forward, though.
Mertz took to Twitter this evening and announced some major news: He's shutting down his recruitment.
Here's his full announcement:
This is not good news for Ohio State and Notre Dame (and the other programs pursuing the elite quarterback). The Buckeyes and the Fighting Irish will now have to turn elsewhere.
Meanwhile, it's huge news for Wisconsin.
Mertz, a Kansas product ranked the No. 4 QB in the class by 247Sports' Composite Rankings, could end up being the best player at his position when it's all said and done.
