Here's The Latest On 5-Star QB Justin Fields
Here's the latest on the battle for the No. 1 overall quarterback recruit.
The No. 1 quarterback recruit in the 2018 class was at Alabama this weekend.
Justin Fields, the five-star quarterback previously committed to Penn State, took a visit to Tuscaloosa to watch the Crimson Tide take on Ole Miss.
The top recruit announced his visit on Twitter.
While the visit reportedly went well, SEC Country is reporting that Alabama doesn't think it's going to receive a commitment from the top prospect.
According to two sources close to the Alabama program, both believe that while Fields did enjoy himself this weekend, they do not think he is interested in competing with Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa for the starting quarterback job next year in Tuscaloosa. With the way Hurts and Tagovailoa have played this season, it’s highly unlikely a true freshman — although Fields is incredibly gifted — could unseat both on the depth chart. Both sources believe that Alabama is a long shot, at best, for the 5-star prospect from Harrison High School (Kennesaw, Ga.), even though he used one of his five official visits at the school.
Florida State and Georgia appear to be the two leaders at this point. If playing time is a concern, though, would Fields really want to go to Athens, where true freshman Jake Fromm is leading a top-five team? We'll see. Right now, 247Sports' "Crystal Ball" has him ending up at FSU.
