Earlier this week, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney made the controversial decision to bench Kelly Bryant in favor of true-freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Following the decision, Bryant announced his plans to transfer from the program.

On Saturday afternoon, Lawrence made his first start as a collegiate quarterback against the Syracuse Orange. Dino Babers' squad took down the Tigers during the 2017 season and held an early lead in the ACC showdown late in the first half.

Trailing 13-7 with just under five minutes left in the first half, Lawrence attempted to make a run down the sideline when he took a tough shot to the head. Lawrence stayed down on the field for a while before leaving under his own power.

The true freshman immediately entered the medical tent.

Lawrence put himself in a tough position on the sideline and paid the price with a shot to the head. He looked woozy as he left the field, though no diagnosis has been made at this point. Syracuse leads 13-7. UPDATE: Holly Rowe reported on the sideline that the Clemson training staff took away Lawrence's helmet.

He's headed to the locker room.
