The Gators appear to be the team of choice for the former Notre Dame quarterback.
Florida appears to be the likely destination for Notre Dame quarterback Malik Zaire.
Zaire, a former Fighting Irish starting quarterback who lost his job to DeShone Kizer, is reportedly considering the Gators along with Texas.
A decision was reportedly going to come sometime this month, but it's since been pushed back until after the SEC meetings. And that makes it seem like Florida is the pick.
As detailed by Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples, the SEC has a graduate transfer rule that prevents programs from taking them if they've had previous ones that didn't fulfill academic requirements. Florida has had a couple of those recently, so Zaire seems to be waiting for something to happen at the SEC meetings that would allow him to transfer to Gainesville, Fla.
Then, a decision from Zaire could come.
"You may get an announcement from Zaire pretty quickly (after the meetings)," Staples said.
The Florida quarterback competition appears to be pretty open, too, so Zaire could step in and start right away.
