A 19-year-old college football player passed away this weekend.

Itawamba Community College in Mississippi confirmed last night that one of its players, safety Zion Ford, passed away this weekend.

Ford, 19, played in six games last season as a freshman. He recorded six tackles.

“Our hearts go out to Zion’s family,” ICC coach Sean Cannon said in a press release. “Not only was Zion a great teammate, he was a great kid away from the game of football. Like everyone that knew him, we are hurting and ask that everyone keep his family in their prayers during this difficult time.”

There have been no additional details released regarding Ford's death.

“On behalf of our administration, coaches and student-athletes, we want to express our condolences to Zion’s family and friends,” ICC president Dr. Jay Allen said. “We are working with our team and coaches to help them through this unfortunate process. Zion had an obvious impact on his teammates and the institution. The team and coaching staff are brokenhearted.”

Twitter was flooded with tributes to Ford.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Ford's family and friends.

May he rest in peace.
