Jalen Mayden, one of the top uncommitted quarterbacks in the country, is set to commit this evening. He is down to five schools in his recruitment.
Last month, Mayden, whose brother Jared is a defensive back at Alabama, put out this top five schools list: Baylor, Louisville, Mississippi State, Nebraska, and Tennessee.
The four-star dual-threat quarterback's commitment has been projected by 12 different voters in 247Sports' crystal ball. All 12 believe he will end up with Dan Mullen's Mississippi State Bulldogs.
All of the projections have come since April 5, the day after his top schools list came out, with five of the 12 being registered on April 23.
Obviously no one knows where Mayden will ends up except for he and his family, and there have been plenty of unanimous favorites that have wound up not landing players. But as far as these 12 experts are concerned, the Bulldogs are the favorite in this one.
Mayden is ranked No. 12 among dual-threat quarterbacks in the class of 2018, and is the No. 34 ranked recruit in Texas.
Mississippi State currently has eight players verbally committed for the class of 2018, a group that is ranked No. 6 in the SEC and No. 29 nationally. Mayden would be the second four-star player in the class, and as a top quarterback, would immediately become the headliner for Dan Mullen's newest set of Bulldogs. We'll see if it works out for Mississippi State, or if one of the other four schools pulls the upset.
