Jim McElwain Names Feleipe Franks The Starting QB vs. Michigan

The Gators have a starting quarterback.

Florida has its starting quarterback for Saturday.

Jim McElwain announced after practice this evening that Feleipe Franks is getting the nod behind center for the Gators' season-opening game against Michigan.

Franks, a redshirt freshman, beat out Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire to win the job.

Franks was a four-star recruit coming out of high school in 2016, ranked the No. 5 pro-style quarterback in the class by 247Sports' Composite Rankings.

The former top recruit will be without his top wide receiver, Antonio Callaway, and his starting running back, Jordan Scarlett, as both players are among the 10 Gators currently suspended.

Florida and Michigan are set to kick off at 3:30 p.m. E.T. on ABC.
