Even though we’re only two full weeks into the college football season, we can already see some schools shaping up to be overachievers.
It didn’t take an expert to see that Clemson, Alabama, Georgia and their ilk were going to be really good this year. But below that crop of elite teams is a group of schools lurking and potentially ready to contend.
Fox Sports’ Joel Klatt has been rattling off superlatives through the first two weeks. Today, he dropped his five under-the-radar teams.
Klatt’s five “sleeper” teams are Oklahoma State, USC, Washington State, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has certainly dominated its first two opponents. The Badgers have a bye this week but return to the field to face Michigan on September 21. That will be a major test for both teams.
Michigan State’s defense is one of the best in the country, while their offense showed signs of life last weekend. We’ll see if that was a fluke or the beginning of a trend against Arizona State this week.
Washington State will take on Houston in Week 3 with a trip to No. 11 Utah looming in two weeks. USC is 2-0 but the Trojans’ schedule is about to get markedly tougher.
As for Mike Gundy and Oklahoma State, a trip to Texas on September 21 will let us know where the Cowboys stand in the Big 12.
