Kirby Smart has basically accomplished every goal he could have in his first three seasons at Georgia, except beating Alabama. The Crimson Tide have taken out the Bulldogs the last two seasons in heartbreaking fashion.
Two years ago, ‘Bama rallied to beat Georgia in the national championship game. Last season, they did the same thing in the SEC title game.
Both times, the Tide backup quarterback was the hero. As a true freshman, Tua Tagovailoa relieved an ineffective Jalen Hurts and led his team to a legendary comeback to win the national championship.
Last year, Hurts returned the favor, replacing Tagovailoa and bringing the Crimson Tide back for their fourth SEC championship in the last five seasons.
Perhaps that’s why Smart joked at SEC Media Days that the key to outlasting Alabama is to keep their starting quarterback in the game.

Once again, Alabama and Georgia are the preseason favorites in their respective divisions in the SEC. Both are preseason top five teams nationally.
No one should be surprised if we see them meet once again in December.
