Kirk Herbstreit Isn't Sure If Oklahoma Can 'Last'

Kirk Herbstreit On College Football's Most "Intimidating" Stadium

The ESPN analyst doesn't know if the Sooners can keep this up.

If you had to pick a national title contender to stumble down the stretch, Kirk Herbstreit says Oklahoma might be the team to go with.

The ESPN college football analyst said Tuesday night that he's not sure if the Sooners can keep this up going forward.

"History says that typically teams that have to out-score opponents don't last. Someone eventually catches them," Herbstreit said.

Oklahoma's offense has been awesome, led by Heisman Trophy frontrunner Baker Mayfield, but OU's defense is nothing to brag about. The Sooners allowed 52 points to Oklahoma State, 27 to Texas Tech, 35 to West Virginia, 38 in the loss to Iowa State and 41 to Baylor.

"It's almost like that team in March Madness that hits the 3, and all of a sudden they get cold, and they don't have the halfcourt game to go with that 3-point shot and they end up getting knocked out," Herbstreit said.

Oklahoma is set to play a good offense this weekend in No. 6 TCU. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. E.T. on FOX.
