As has become a weekly tradition during the college football season, Kirk Herbstreit reveals his top five players of the week. After a stellar weekend of football, Herbstreit revealed his top five on Monday afternoon.
The list has a few familiar names. But there’s also some relatively unknown players included.
Here’s his top five players from week two:
- Joe Burrow, LSU QB
- Kedon Slovis, USC QB
- Evan Weaver, Cal LB
- Rondale Moore, Purdue WR
- Darrynton Evans, App State RB

Burrow led the Tigers to an impressive, statement win over No. 9 Texas. The former Ohio State quarterback balled out throwing for 471 yards and four touchdowns. He has certainly revitalized the LSU offense.
USC’s new quarterback is a name many weren’t familiar with heading into the weekend. But now, the true freshman Slovis is a star in Los Angeles. The Trojans have found their guy at quarterback. Slovis completed 84.8% of his passes for 377 yards and three touchdowns in an upset of Stanford. Is USC finally back on the rise?
Weaver, Cal’s stud linebacker, helped propel the Bears to an upset of Washington on Saturday night — or morning depending on where you live. Weaver had 18 tackles, two TFL and a forced fumble in the win.
Purdue’s speedy receiver entered into the spotlight last season. Moore is back at again this year. On Saturday night, he had 220 receiving yards on 14 catches and one touchdown.
If you’re looking for one of the best statistical performances of the weekend, look no further than Appalachian State’s running back. Evans ran for 234 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns in a win.
Hard to disagree with Herbstreit’s list. Is there another player who should’ve been included?
