It’s conference championship Saturday, but the biggest college football news of the day involves Lane Kiffin. The FAU head coach is reportedly on his way back to the SEC.
Kiffin, who previously served as the head coach at Tennessee and the offensive coordinator at Alabama, is reportedly closing on a deal with Ole Miss. The Rebels will reportedly name Kiffin their next head coach as early as Sunday.
Ole Miss and Kiffin were reportedly finalizing the deal as of Friday night.
Rebels insider Neal McCready first reported the news.
It's not officially signed, but it's done. Lane Kiffin is Ole Miss' next head football coach. He'll arrive in Oxford Sunday. I expect the Ole Miss band to meet him there. He'll be announced officially on Monday, likely at the Pavilion at Ole Miss. @RivalsChase.

ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit reacted to the news on College GameDay on Saturday morning. The reaction was pretty perfect.
“Thank you to the college football gods,” Herbstreit joked. He cannot wait to see Kiffin back in the SEC West, going up against Nick Saban, Ed Orgeron and Co.
“The way he stirs things (up), he can’t help himself.”
Kiffin back in the SEC will be an incredible amount of fun.
For now, though, Kiffin is focused on FAU’s conference championship game. The Owls will play UAB at 1:30 p.m. E.T. on CBS Sports Network.
