Who can beat Alabama?
Nick Saban's Crimson Tide enter the College Football Playoff 13-0 and the heavy favorite to win it all. Alabama gets Washington in the Peach Bowl and then, assuming a win, Clemson or Ohio State in the national title.
Which of the three playoff teams has the best chance to beat the SEC champs?
Las Vegas likes Ohio State. So does ESPN's FPI.
Kirk Herbstreit, though, likes Clemson.
From his appearance on Mike & Mike this morning.
"You have to say Clemson,” Herbstreit said. “Clemson’s been that team all year. Preseason I picked Clemson to beat Alabama in the national championship. It had everything to do with their quarterback, the playmakers he has around them and the defense that has played, for the most part, pretty well this year. With that being said, Ohio State has a chance athletically to match up with Clemson and give them very good game.
"If Clemson is hitting on all cylinders and playing the way they’re capable of playing, I think they’re capable of playing with Alabama. The thing that makes me very, very confused with Clemson is at times they look like they can move the ball on anybody and other times, they’re very erratic and they turn the ball over.”
Clemson lost to Alabama in the national title last year, but Deshaun Watson had a historical performance against the Crimson Tide's defense.
The Tigers will have to get past Ohio State first, and they're the underdog. The Buckeyes enter their Fiesta Bowl tilt as a 2.5-point favorite.
