ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit believes some USC fans are dreaming of two big-name head coaches as the 2019 regular season begins.

The Trojans are set to begin their season tonight, taking on Fresno State at 10:30 p.m. E.T. on ESPN.

Not everyone in USC's fan base will be rooting for a win, though. That's what Herbstreit thinks, anyway.

The ESPN college football analyst believes some USC fans are hoping their team loses so head coach Clay Helton will be ousted.

“Just to put it into perspective for fans outside that region, there’s a pretty good size portion of their owns fans pulling for USC to lose games so they can go get Urban Meyer or Bob Stoops,” Herbstreit said on ESPN's College GameDay. “That’s real. That’s what they’re taking the field starting this weekend and facing. I’m with Des and David. I think this team will be better.

"They’re going to take the field in that conference and have as much skill as everyone they play. The quarterback JT Daniels in his second year starting has now an idea what he wants to do in that new system. I expect good things and maybe it’s because I like Clay Helton and like to see him do well. I keep kind of pulling for him.”

Meyer has been mentioned a lot for the USC job since he retired at Ohio State. He's now working with two former Trojans stars in Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush at FOX. You can bet some recruiting is going on there.

For now, though, USC is being led by head coach Clay Helton, and things get underway tonight.
